The July Zoom started with Al Brown conducting a 45 min pre-meeting for members who wanted to learn more about Zoom. As he progressed more members signed in to do some limited socializing. If you missed part or all of this, he recorded the whole meeting including the pre-meeting. Just pick the link at the bottom of this post, to watch the whole thing.
Then president Tom took over by welcoming everyone.
He then turned it over to our treasurer Randy Cooper, who let everyone know the clubs financial status, before turning it back to Tom for show and tell.
Show and Tell
Fred Damianos shared a jar that he turned out of Rosewood. He hollowed it with a forstner bit, and finished it with Rubio.
Susan Darovec Showed four serving trays, aka compot, that she turned from walnut she got at Lake Yale wood collectors meeting. She said the hardest thing was following a pattern and maintaining the dimensions.
Ed Columbo showed a coffee table he made. It was made in four pieces and bolted together. He sprayed it with automotive finish to achieve the beautiful high gloss finish. You cant beat Ed’s hand cut dovetails either.
John Theimer had a clever trivit and intarsia bird.
Art Standin – isn’t trying to open his own casino, but he is making his own dice. They are about 1″ square and the dots are brass rod. He made jig for drilling the holes.
Al Brown – made his first piece of furniture. A really nice end table out of Ash and cheery. He made it with tapered legs and mortise and tenon joinery. He discovered just how hard Ash is, because he had to sharpen his chisel after each legs mortise holes. He also learned about grain direction, while using his router to smooth the tapered leg. The grain changed direction in the middle of the cut and Al had to go and change his pants, after the leg exploded on him.
Tom Falcone – held up a small 3 sided bowl he turned; how did he do that? He also had a wine glass where he replaced the broken stem with a turned stem. But the cleverest thing he made was a little plate, that sits on the wine glass to hold hors d’oeuvres so you can have one hand free to eat with.

Tom drew numbers for the door Zoom prize. Andy Di Lorenzo, Neil and Gail McCullough , and Bubba Henson each won $25.
Conclusion:
As much as we would like to get back to live meetings, we are doing the best we can in the present circumstance. There were a lot of smiles at the meeting as everyone enjoyed seeing and talking to there friends. I hope to see even more at next month meeting for the 2×4 contest.
